Expectations
We look forward to working together to achieve many things, including:
- Increasing your knowledge of chemistry concepts.
- Having you demonstrate increased confidence and competence in your ability to teach chemistry incorporating computational measures and visualizations. As a result of your work, your students will be able to use computational and molecular modeling tools.
- You will be part of a group of teacher-leaders – “ICLCS Fellows” – who will become advocates for excellence in science education and will assume leadership roles as part of their own professional development.
- Your school district administrators and university faculty will increase their advocacy and leadership roles on behalf of teaching reform in their institutions.
The Program creates a new learning paradigm specific to visualization, inquiry-based learning, and learning experiences relevant to students' lives. Participants learn effective and creative collaboration skills and are given the opportunity to collaborate with peers, mentors, researchers, faculty, and staff through on-site and virtual activities.
Participants and Districts
Acceptance into the program means that your are designated an “ICLCS Fellow” for your time in the program. ICLCS Fellows will be required to attend a residential, two-week Summer Institutes for a period of 3 years on the UIUC campus, and will be required to attend two additional workshops at their designated Regional Office of Education ICLCS Center during the fall and spring semesters. In addition, ICLCS Fellows will be required to participate in all virtual activities, such as presentations, forums, collaborations, leadership activities, and peer and mentor interactions that will be assigned during the school year. Fellows will also be required to participate in e-journaling activities as a regular part of the ICLCS.
ICLCS fellows must sign a document of commitment indicating his/her agreement to participate fully in all ICLCS activities. In addition, the fellow must secure a written commitment from his/her school district in support of their participation in the program. Districts/schools are to provide the ICLCS fellow with a reliable internet connection, support of technical staff, access to a PC computer during the course of the program, as well as release time for related professional development activities.
